In its essence, SATKARA 五行 refers to principles of care and transformation.

SATKARA 五行 also refers to the second album by the (imaginary) Rock N Roll band Bardo Stars. Bardo Stars' sophomore album was self-produced by Nico S. between Los Angeles and Paris in 2019-2020. The album blends song structures with instrumental audio collages that feature a mixture of lectures, found audio, ambient sounds and news clips. The album is structured around two sides, side A begins with the proto-punk stomp of "severed head" composed in the wake of the beheading of Samuel Paty, before moving into the (literally) lacanian dark hues of "death kiss" and then into the lysergic detuned guitars of "alone and stoned" which transition into the psychoanalytic disco goth of "yin yang 陰陽" before morphing into the senseless agression of "slasher flic" and "a bout de souffle" which were composed after the stabbing in Nice and the murder of George Floyd respectively. Side B begins with a psychedelic collage of pure French theorist Gilles Deleuze with the driving ballad "les mots et les choses" before switching into an instrumental ode to Qi "metal my love 金愛氣" that fades into the sinfully neo-psychedelic slide guitar space-out "missing the mark." After a (literally) deleuzean assemblage of a 1987 lecture, a trap beat, and tuareg guitars, the album delivers its final song with the melancholy, ethereal and wholesome chug of "chin up train" before ending with two slow-burning, tripped out, and atmospheric instrumentals drenched in delay and reverb.

It is my hope that the Qi (氣) that led to the creation of SATKARA 五行 can foster joy, warmth, appreciation, and perhaps even wonder (θαυμάζειν).
